Pacific Northwest boasts variety of air museums

As you're driving through McMinnville, Oregon on Highway 18, it is impossible not to see expansive new modern buildings that make up the Organization and the Evergreen Aviation Space Museum. Your first clue that this has something to do with aviation is the giant 747 passenger plane parked at the front – not your typical office sign.

Our visit to the museum was by chance – they were in the area went to the Oregon coast and were amazed at the mammoth buildings we saw along the road. Then we saw the sign – and the plane – and it all came together for us. We had heard talk about the Evergreen Museum, but did not realize that would be directly on our route to the coast.

We like to visit museums and this was one of aircraft the best I've seen. The museum is divided into two areas: aviation and space. There are separate charges to visit each area or you can buy a combined ticket. Once which is within you will be surprised aircraft are displayed – for example, the giant Spruce Goose, the famous Howard Hughes eight propeller seaplane, which is in pristine condition, dwarfing all other aircraft in the building of exhibition of aviation. This alone is worth visiting the Museum of Evergreen, because its unique role in aviation history.

And that's just the beginning. Examples of almost every type of aircraft you can imagine is in full screen allows visitors a close look at these planes and helicopters, as well as complete information about why the particular aircraft are important. More on the side space, numerous exhibitions of rockets and spacecraft and informative explanations about how and why it all happened. Whatever your age, the museum is a great experience learning.

The museum is dedicated to Captain Michael King Smith, who grew up in McMinnville, Oregon, and graduated from McMinnville High School 1984. He later graduated first in his class at Columbus Air Force Base. He also received numerous awards and later became an F-15 pilot for the 123rd Squadron Combat Team, Oregon Air National Guard. Captain Smith died in a car accident in 1995.

With one IMAX show is also available Museum in Evergreen, it is suggested that you allow five hours to see all aircraft, spacecraft and exhibits on display at the Evergreen. The whole family will enjoy learning about these devices and, in many cases, actually going inside the aircraft to feel what might have been like to fly in these craft that period. For more information about Evergreen Aviation Organization and the Space Museum, call 503-434-4185.
