How do I choose an antenna for my VHF Marine radio?

Are they universal between models?
I have a Uniden MC535.

I’m assuming you’re asking about the same bayliner you have already been on line about. If so:
Get a 5db gain antenna of the length you want. All VHF antenna use the same cord plug/screw adapter at the radio end so no worries there. Make sure to get a VHF antenna. Keep in mind many antenna do not come with bases to mount them to the boat. So check and see if you need to get one of these as well.

It was late November and we approached our chosen anchorage, Shark River, located on the west coast of Florida. The sea was calm, the weather was clear and had been very nice and warm all day.
