What does this improve for UHF LOS communications?

There are a lot of factors that determine how much power is needed to reliably communicate at UHF or any other frequency. Aircraft UHF antennas are usually omni-directional because it is generally impossible to predict where the ground receiver will be located with respect to a moving airplane. That means the transmitted power is spread out over a much larger solid angle than is necessary to simply reach the receiver. So, for an acceptable signal-to-noise ratio at the ground receiver, a larger power is needed than would be required for a more focused radio beam pointed directly at the receiver. That could change if aircraft were equipped with electronically steerable phased-array UHF antennas. Don’t hold your breath waiting for that to happen. It’s so much cheaper and easier to use whatever power produces acceptable results, at whatever altitude or range the aircraft desires to be while communicating.

Part 1 on USS Liberty Series: "It was God who kept us afloat"

It was the events of that day called 9 / 11 awakened the doctor's wife spoiled to the fact on the ground that people in the world hated the U.S. So that would aim at killing and innocent Americans.

USS Liberty Veterans have repeatedly called open an independent panel to investigate the horrific attack and unprovoked them and received only pro forma letters from White House employee in this Administration stating that the attack had already been investigated.

One of the men that was below the water line when the torpedo was Ron Kukal, which has become the chaplain of the USS Liberty Veterinary Association. The element of surprise was his.

"I survived the attack aircraft, but the worst was yet to come, as five torpedo boats upon us, with one thing in mind, and that we put at the bottom. Only one found its mark. This was the second miracle that I was exposed to that day, the first is the survival of the offensive jets.

"The freedom almost torpedo amidships on the starboard side, and I was about thirty yards from the explosion. There were a couple of bulkheads between the explosion, and I, but they were like paper to several tons of TNT that broke the bowels of Liberty. What had several compartments has become a major room in a very short time. I was immediately immersed in seawater, and quickly grew to the point where it would be over my head in a short time, and though I knew swim, the compartment would soon become completely full, and there would be no place to go. The hatch to the upper deck was closed and dogged down, and so my life again depended completely on what God would do. Just before the compartment became fully open the hatch was flooded over me for which many of us as possible out of there before it became a part of a watery grave. This was the third miracle I saw that day, but there was more to come, and as I ran to get to the main deck, was slipping and sliding through the water and the blood which was flooded along each corridor.

"The fourth miracle occurred when exposed to fire machine guns on the main deck, and was still alive, and had not more come. Each dish we had was in pieces, except one, and had never worked very well. One of the radio operators told me he had tried several times to ask help, and finally when he realized they were killed all of the antenna, which was passed had always given him trouble, and when necessary, it worked. We were able to call the Sixth Fleet, and notify them of our situation through an antenna that had hardly ever worked. The fifth miracle had happened.

"The attack lasted two hours or more, but it seemed that only a few minutes. The captain told us we had lost control direction, and we'd have to go aft, and steer the boat manually. We have been able to move, and eventually headed for the island of Malta and in dry dock. This was almost a thousand miles away, and there we were with a ship that had a forty by forty-one-meter gap on his side, fire, and full of holes.

"The Liberty could go down at any time, but sailing a thousand miles without incident, and this had to be the miracle of the day session. I was one of the crew who went down to identify the deceased, and I know God gave me the strength to go and do what is expected of me.
