Teflon Wire

Is it bad for normal pots if you stir w/ silverware??

I know that its not good to stir w/ silverware on teflon, but for the normal everyday pot, will silverware hurt it? Some recipes (like gravy or stirring milk) call for using a wire whisk—-it doesn’t seem like this would be asked if it is damaging my pot. Thanks
