My spider plant babies die when I pot them in pots, the base becomes brown and they die, please can you help?

The spider babies are green in healthy when they are rooted in water, then when I plant them in their pots, new soil, they turn brown at the base and die. I have killed 8 so far! I don’t want to kill anymore can you please help? I live in Canada and we do have treated water. Thanks!

I leave mine attached to the main plant whilst planting them into individual pots and only when they start to grow do I seperate them. This seems to work every time.
