Can a CAT scanner be used for surveying a building? I.e. does it provide heights and coordinates to CAD?

I have a large building that I would like to map to AutoCAD as accurately as possible. I’ve heard that CAT scanners (the things used for finding buried services etc) can map coordinates and heights which can be transferred to CAD. Is this possible?

There are hand-held CAT scanners for scanning for buried services such as gas and water. The technology is not limited to hospitals.
No, sorry they cant do that, i work for a hire company and we run around 20 Cat scans (Or C Scope) as they are also called, they can only be used for tracing where gas or water pipes are layed and also electric cables, you can also use a gadget called a generator with them , this increases the signal of the pipe if it is buried really low.
You more want a complete station, this is a bit like a theodolite but a lot more advanced, you can plot over 500 reference points into the on board computer and then down load at the end of the day onto your laptop, the problem is they are incredibly expensive and take around 3 months to learn how to use, i do have one on the shelf to hire at work but you are looking at around £150 to £200 a week,
i think you are back to the old trusty tape measure sorry.
