To what extent is using a scanner radio legal in India? –URGENT ANSWER–?

I am an amateur radio enthusiast who will be in India for a 2 months vacation. Wanted to know if the posession and use of a scanner radio is legal in India. Can it be used in automobiles? I would appreciate if someone who really knows this stuff answer me.

Yes it is legal. I am not sure about each district so you might want to get in touch with the law in that area. But overall there is no law against it. But use common sense, using it to listen in to legal channels might not be the wisest thing to do.
