Depends on the design. One can make power supplies without any inrush current spike at all. No problem. All you have to do is tell the designer that zero-inrush current is a hard design goal and they will tell you how much it will cost in comparison to a regular design.

Materials needed:
AWG-14g, at least 10 feet just to get enough.
"From a single pole double throw (based on / off).
-Tools necessary to remove interior panels or seats to access the cables of the pump.

-Search your fuel pump through the service manual for your car or truck.
-Remove the panels or the seats needed to access the pump wires.
"There must be two wires going to the pump, one black (ground), the other wearing some way (power).
"Finding a good place to make the switch. Somewhere no one see or guess it's there. Mine is in my center console, but I have a secondary, redundant switch …
-Connect a wire to each post on the switch and secure with welding, electrical tape, etc. Make sure to leave enough cable Directions to both charges at the pump wires.
-Cut a hole big enough for the body flow as through switch and ride there.
-Court the power wire far enough away from the pump that can remove the switch and reconnect the original wires if desired.
-Splice the wires back into the age cables with solder or electrical tape.

Test the pump and the switch to make sure they work properly, making the switch to "OFF", position and turn the key in the "ON". The fuel pump should not enter characterized by a low moan or hum. Now put the switch in the "ON" position and turn the key in the "ON" position. The pump should be turned on to pressurize the system.

Now it's done.

Make sure you do not forget that you have the switch so that when you will start your car or truck, will launch with the fuel pump. Not a bad thing if your pump is not on, but it is a niusance for the engine fire up then die 3 seconds later.
