Fingerprint scanners can prevent school violence and is it worth?
In this age of school shootings and terrorist threats, security is a bigger problem than ever in our nation's schools. Some public school boards have decided to install fingerprint scanners on all inputs is the best way to proceed.
Proponents of the use of fingerprint identification in public schools say it is the only way to keep students safe in a system that is far time in preventing violence. Many high schools and high schools in search in fingerprint scanners have hired security guards to patrol school. Administrators say that these officials are not sufficient to combat the growing violence in schools. Fingerprint scanners provide a means to anticipate problems and avoid violence.
Under the new system, fingerprint scanners fingerprints will be placed at each entrance of the school open to students. They scan in when they arrived at school, if they leave the building for lunch, when they return, and when go home for the day. Fingerprint scanners to be managed by training guards may notify the other if there was a problem.
The school security officers say the fingerprint scanners that go a long way to prevent school shootings, fights, bomb threats, consumption drug, and ditching. Using fingerprint identification would allow them to control when individual students enter and leave school. This would be a deterrent to bear arms and keep unauthorized students out. Officials also could follow up of students with histories of violence or drug use and control problems using combinations of the students were out together. They believe that drug and gang related violence in schools would reduce significantly with this type of fingerprint identification. The ditching school students would be easier to catch in the act as well.
Fingerprint identification in schools would benefit law enforcement potentially out of school too. Each student will have their fingerprints in the file along with a photograph. They could be used not only to identify suspects in a crime, but also to students who may be victims kidnappings and other crimes. The fingerprint scanners would be able to tell when a student suspected of a felony or a misdemeanor student entered and left the school. The police could use this information to assemble the time of the crimes.
Teachers agree that the solution fingerprint scanner is a bandaid, but a very necessary one to prevent further violence. A long-term solution that includes investing in programs to prevent violence from an early age (possibly using the DARE program as a model), but this would require large investments of taxpayers and the cooperation of parents.
Another argument against the fingerprint scanners in schools is that it would be much time to scan every student, every time he or she enters or leaves the building and this would disrupt the learning process. Even with new technology that makes fingerprints very efficient scanner, the process significantly lengthens the amount of time necessary for students to scan one at a time on each entry. Administrators say it will take some time before many schools can fingerprint scanners to pay enough to keep students moving freely.
Some people favor the replacement of face recognition software Fingerprint scanners. This could be a lot faster, but the current face recognition software is much more expensive than
Fingerprint scanners digital already in the market for consumer use. This would be prohibitive for many schools taking into account the additional security measures. Most administrators agree that preventing a tragedy like the Columbine slaughter that is well worth the extra time it took. They say that we all have things we have to get used to if we want to be better prepared for all possibilities.
Some people think that the fingerprint scanners in schools would be a violation of student rights of privacy. But others say that the use of fingerprint identification in public schools would not differ from the metal detectors in government buildings.
If schools use fingerprint scanners or facial recognition software to ramp up security, there will always be questions on security vs. freedom. This debate may continue, but in the mean time our children have become targets of violence. If we must err, we err on the side of safety for our children until we can find better ways to deal with security threats today for all of us.
