Original Socket

I replaced original wall socket with a new socket, old socket was controlled by light switch, after installing

new socket the wall switch didn’t work. So I clipped the connection between the top socket and the bottom socket. Now master bedroom lights only work when clipped socket switch in spare bedroom is in the “on” position. What did I do wrong?

what you did wrong(and many many others do sadly) is perform electrical work thinking its easy …..there are soooo many ways to wire things but to do it right AND safe only one way…I am betting…the outlet(socket as you refer to it?) was fed with the 110volts..and the old outlet was clipped between top and bottom…with the top being always on, and the bottom being refed thru light swith to switch on and off the bottom half of the outlet…
