Do I need to have my chimney liner cleaned periodically?
I have an oil furnace that vents through the house’s original chimney. (house is 100 years old). Four years ago I had a chimney liner installed and it hasn’t been checked since. Should I have it cleaned, and if so, how often?
Absolutely! It is recommended to have it done yearly if you use the furnace heavily. Otherwise you are asking for disaster.
“Oil soot accumulates on the walls and at the base of the chimney, which should be inspected and cleaned annually by a CSIA certified chimney sweep” (http://www.mastersweep.net/index.php3?gallery=-47-Frequently_Asked_Questions).

The new chimney pots are made of copper. They are more expensive than the variety of clay pot, but they are very beautiful and can add to the look of your home. When the age of the copper to turn green color is beautiful.
For those homes that are metal zero tolerance will be necessary for you to get the model number of the manufacturer and the manufacturer's name so you can get the size of the pipe will have to raise your fireplace. There may be a regulation in this city that calls to include the pipe in a chase. This could do you have to build the persecution of the new height.
This may solve some problems with smoke in your home, but if you can not have more problems with your fireplace.
Chimney caps, like the Vacu-Stack or Windbeater are another solution to their design problems. They are made specifically to create a current upward when the wind blows across your roof and chimney. The cap will stay put and wind around the top circle and make an updraft. This works quite well with masonry chimneys, solid pack chimney pipe and metal chimneys. You can find a variety of sizes and adapters that work in most masonry fireplaces.
If you have a metal chimney that does not need an adapter. You can measure the inner tube if you have a tube of air-cooled chimney with two or three tubes inside. An external pipe collar comes with the Vacu-Stack for these types of fireplaces. If you have a problem with the wording with your furnace or water heater can usually find smaller sizes to fit these.
