How does Nascar set the qualifying field?

Can you tell me how someone has the 20th fastest lap in qualifying and doesnt make the race?

The top 35 teams in Owner’s Points (not Driver’s Points), are guarnteed to start the race. That means that the drivers who are 36th or worst, have to qualify on time. Since NASCAR has 43 car fields, only the 8 fastest in qualifying, of those non top 35 drivers will make the race. (7 if the past champion provisional is used). Therefore, a driver may be 20th in practice, but he may have been beaten by speed by 7 (or 6) drivers in qualifying.

If you are talking about Michael Waltrip at Talladega, he was 20th fastest, but 7 drivers not in the top 35 were faster than him.

Americans have been known for his many passions, including speed. This apparent need for speed has led to the creation of racing engines that have been attracting Americans year after year. While the sport may not seem as physical as other sports like baseball, football and basketball, a large number Americans are supporting speed based sports cars. And when talking about cars, the first thing that comes to mind is the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup.

car market in the world that is one reason why the love of cars shown by the Americans. As popular as the Nextel Cup series may be, there is still a large number of people who are still in the dark, what this sport is.

Basically, the Nextel Cup is a series of races in which the best racing driver, judging by the number of points earned during the duration of the entire racing series champion is crowned. The racing dates back to the days when the races are "strictly stock" cars or cars that have not been modified in any way. During the first few days can bring a car to the tracks and race it.

Today however, the race car used in the Nextel Cup Series are tailor made for racing. Although teams can play with their cars to be better than the competition, NASCAR imposes rules to maintain the equality of the cars. This year, four car brands have their racing vehicles in the series. These are Ford, Dodge, Toyota and Chevrolet. The latter has been dominating the current series by winning nine of the last ten races.

While a car NASCAR Nextel Cup race can be modified for racing, must have three parts in stock from manufacturers. These three parts are the roof, trunk lid, and bonnet of the cars. Apart from these three parts, the chassis, powertrain, suspension, steering and other systems can be modified to make the car in order to be eligible to demands of high-speed operations. In fact, parts such as Pacesetter Exhaust parts can be used by these race cars. While these systems can be adjusted, NASCAR set some rules that every team must carry including the weight of the race hire.

Currently, the weight set by NASCAR race car is 3,400 pounds. Another rule is that the distance between the front and rear wheels also should be uniform in all race cars to compete in the Nextel Cup Series. The wheelbase of all race cars must be 100 inches. The fuel capacity car racing are also controlled by NASCAR. For most of the tracks, mandate fuel capacity is 17.5 gallons. All race cars entering the contest must have the same type of fuel is 110 octane unleaded fuel, as governed by the sports sanctioning body. Maximum speed of car also has a limit set to 235 kilometers per hour.

For a car that they can compete in the Nextel Cup, your engine must comply with the standards set National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing or NASCAR. For example, the electronic properties are not permitted and, instead, used mechanical parts. This keeps costs of detente to the benefit of teams competing in races. Engines allowed to be used in race cars competing in Nextel Cup, you must have eight-cylinder combustion chambers measuring 358 cubic inches. To prevent cars from the same output power is set at a maximum of approximately 750 horsepower.

An interesting fact about these race cars were the headlights. Because these cars are running only during the day, they do not need to have a pair of headlights. The real headlights that lies ahead of these cars are on decals that look realistic enough to fool the person unknowingly. Another interesting fact about these race cars is that they must meet a series of templates that NASCAR is using to ensure that the shape of cars is almost uniform. The tires used in these cars do not have the tread on them which is why Jimmy Stewart 400 was postponed due to the pouring rain during the event. The absence of treads of the tires of cars makes it impossible to compete on wet runways. The tire compound tires on these cars is more difficult as those used by vehicles from other motor sports by the fact that these race cars weigh significantly more.
