The microwave oven is one of the most brilliant inventions of the human race. Not only is it used for heating food can also be used for cooking, baking, thawing and even boiling water. No household appliance is more versatile than this little dynamo.

But who invented this great product?

Like many products in history, the microwave is also a product of past technologies. In 1946, Dr. Percy Spencer, an engineer Raytheon Corporation, led a research project on radar. Dr. Spencer noticed something odd when he was overseeing the project. Although the test of a vacuum tube called a magnetron, realized that the chocolate bar melted in his pocket.

Stunned by the prospect, he began studying the phenomena and other experiments made. One experiment involved putting popcorn near the tube. Standing in the distance, he saw the popcorn sputtered, thundered across the laboratory.

Another experiment that was conducted involved an egg, which is placed near the magnetron tube. This time, he asked his colleague to accompany him to they can see both phenomena.

Because of the tremendous pressure, the egg began to tremor. The temperature inside the egg is so high that the egg exploded. Hot yolk splattered all his colleagues face. Given these results, they realized that other foods can be cooked using microwave energy of low density.

Dr. Spencer then fashioned a metal box. The opening of this box is directly connected to the microwave power. Since power can not escape from the box, the result is an energy that is enclosed in a space. When Dr. Spencer put food inside the box, the temperature rose rapidly, preparing food in an instant. This was the first time that foods are cooked with microwave technology.

Food engineers began working on the idea of microwave and further refined. In 1946, the Raytheon Company filed a patent proposing the use of microwaves to cook food. A long, similar to what Dr. Spencer created, only refined it placed in a Boston restaurant for the test. It proved a success.

So in 1947, the microwave oven was introduced commercially. The first units were large, about six feet tall and weighs 750 pounds. They were extremely expensive, costing $ 5000 each, but well, with great technology, what is a few thousands.

At that time, the furnaces had to be cooled by water, so the company also had to install some type of plumbing materials.
