Until the 1970s, the shower in the UK in general not considered as part of a daily cleaning routine. There have been some examples for the very rich Regency, where overhead water tank would rain on the individual and then manually pumped back about the whole process to start again. However, these machines use about all cold water, so were not as popular as a good long soak in a hot water bath, where it could be continuously added by the officials.
Showers became popular with the arrival of the package tour, when the British began to visit Europe and North Africa en masse. Showers were common in these warmer countries where people had been taking showers for thousands of years. The Greeks and Egyptians generally had shower rooms, where slaves treated to cold water jugs on their masters and mistresses. Britain was retained bathing rather wise, for the Christians of the early centuries of bathing in vain and profane, and should be discouraged. Plumbing was introduced in Britain in 1800 and potentially hot tap water can be given although this remains the preservation of the very rich.
Modern central heating boilers brought an unlimited amount of hot water and hotter baths and shower improvements in designs shower meant that Britain became more popular. With the advent of power shower, busy people can now enjoy hot water jets to invigorate before going to work.
Outlets and in bathrooms of Borders and produce all types of shower (as Bristen showers) to appeal to modern tastes and and shower decoration has become a very important part of modern life in Britain.
