Ham Antenna

what can you make a ham radio antenna mount out of?
we want to put up a 80 ft. pipe for a ham radio antenna can we use pvc? or should we use steel i need a 1 1/4″ id pipe on top
Providing the pvc was strong enough and able to withstand the elements including UV light.,and the earthing was correct then there should not be a problem .However i would personally never use pvc for this .
Part of the design of a ham radio antenna relies on the fact that the antenna is earthed.(well earthed ) Using plastic piping you may have problems with the SWR ratio when tuning .
Another aspect is during rain there can and will be a massive static build up on the antenna, your very own lightning conductor .

If you are downloading a large file and is nearing its end, which is receiving a Skype call from a client in London, without notice, your connection Wi-Fi connection drops, leaving downloading and VoIP calls in the havoc. You retry the wireless connection, but the router, but intermittently, satisfied with his time, seems to be off. After three hours, without any reason, your Wi-Fi connection miraculously reappears.
The wireless network can be easy and yet gives you a headache, when It'sgreat mind works and the frustration of the anesthetic, when it is not. A common complaint among many who have moved to Wi-Fi is that their wireless connection mysteriously disappears in and out of frequency.
These steps will help create a stable environment always-on wireless connections.
1. Replace your cordless phone. Cordless phones are among the worst sources of interference wireless communications networks. They intend to transmit at higher power than Wi-Fi, making them stronger and therefore more difficult to talk more, and tend to transmit frequently, especially when the phone and base station are separated. Some 2.4GHz cordless phones let you select a channel, in which case you can try to separate the frequency of your wireless network frequency. For example, set your phone to channel 1 and the wireless router for channel 11. If your phone does not let you select a channel, try putting some distance between the phone and router. It is generally not a good idea to put a phone next to a wireless Wi-Fi router. If this does not help, consider replacing your 2.4GHz phone with a 5GHz phone. In this way, the phone and the network will not share the same airspace and will not interfere with each other.
2. Extend your wireless network. The farther you are from your wireless router, the greater the likelihood interference to block or slow your connection. For example, you may be able to connect very well at home, but in your yard, you may have an intermittent connection that disappears whenever your neighbor is using your wireless phone. The sign in your yard may be too weak to cope with interference from the house next door. You can strengthen the connection with antennas or repeaters or use a jumper from the power line to import the connection from the router to your patio and feed it into a power-point of online access. Instead of the weak signal from your distant router, you now have a strong signal from an access point located just where you want to enhance their coverage area.
3. Change channels. Interference is a likely cause of intermittent connections such as Bluetooth Devices cordless phones, microwave ovens, baby monitors and wireless surveillance equipment, all people of the spectrum. When these devices compete for the same airspace, which interfere with one another, which could block signals from others. Fortunately, there are ways to sidestep and minimize interference with many situations. In the United States, 802.11b and 802.11g devices can be configured to operate in any of 11 channels. Unfortunately, these channels overlap with adjacent channels, so only 3 nonoverlapping channels at your disposal: channels 1, 6 and 11. If you and a neighbor has a wireless network, both of which are set in the channel 6, you may experience interference. You can remedy the problem of restoring your wireless router to a different channel preferably not overlap, in this case, 1 or 11.
