is it possible to get mold out of a fabric that is fire resistant? (my husbands old racing uniform) ?

it is supposed to be washed in woolite, but i am SURE it needs something more potent…you can see the mold on it!

Woolite is very potent. It has a rather high PH and is very alkaline. It’s used in auto detailing to clean away the grime that tends to build up in a car- road grime, grease, air pollution, smoke, etc.

Woolite was considered ‘gentle’ in the ’50s when most laundry was still a hot water wash in Tide or Fels-Naptha (contains petro-chemical solvents. The ingredients were likely stronger way back when. I’ve heard a number of people mention how it *was* a lot stronger than even it is today), along with frequent bleach use.

Woolite should, incidentally, not be used for wool at all as it will ‘open’ the fibers and cause pilling due to it’s alkalinity.
I would follow the label directions for the uniform or send it to a professional cleaners.

As you may already know, don’t use any kind of fabric softener on fire resistant clothing.
