Fans Fan

What is the difference between connecting chassis fans to fan headers on the motherboard or the 4pin molex?
When you connect the fan to the header on the mobo does that supply power or do you still have to plug it in the molex connector?
The headers on the motherboard supply power. You do not need to use a
4-pin Molex power cable.
I DO suggest, however, that you Do Not use some kind of splitter, and run more than ONE fan, off of the motherboard fan power header.
If you need to split power to two fans, or more, then use a 4-pin Molex power cable adapter, that is for this.
Three pin fan connector?
One wire for power, one for ground, and one for registering the RPM’s of the fan.
Four pin fan connector?
One for power, one for ground, one for RPM’s, and the last one is a sensor wire. This is how the fan RPM’s are sped up, or slowed down.
