2004 grand am-can the remote entry be programmed without a tech 2 scanner?
Is there any way to program a new keyless entry remote for a 2004 grand am without using the tech 2 scanner? I have read and tried different methods that mention removing either a mall/pgm fuse or a bcm/pgm fuse either of wich do not exist in this vehicle. Am I at mercy of the dealer? please help!
I don’t know of any way to reprogram it without the scanner being plugged in. Sorry!

A barcode reader (barcode scanner), also called a price scanner or point of sale (POS) scanner, is a device hand-held input or stationary used to capture and read information contained in a barcode. A barcode reader consists of a scanner, a decoder (either integrated or external), and a cable used to connect the reader with a computer.
There are five basic types of barcode readers each one with its own advantage. Those are Pen wands, Slot Scanners, Charge Device (CCD) Scanners, image scanners and laser scanners.
• A wand reader Pen is a simple bar code is known for its durability and low cost, contains no moving parts. You must be in direct contact with the code bar at an angle.
• A slot scanner is stationary and the item with the barcode that is pulled by hand through the slot. Slot scanners are typically used to scan bar codes on identification cards.
• A CCD Scanner often used in sales Retail has a range of reading better than the wand of the pen. A disadvantage is that CCD scanner can not read a bar code is wider than the input side.
• A scanner image, also known as a reader of camera, uses a small video camera to capture the image of the barcode and then use sophisticated techniques of digital image processing to decode the barcode.
• A Laser Scanner, either handheld or fixed, must not be near the bar code in order to do their jobs and can easily read a bar code up to 24 inches apart. A laser scanning may perform up to 500 readings per second to reduce the chance of errors.
Barcode Advantages: —
The scanning systems provide a bar code range of benefits, including operational efficiency, better customer service and improve the visibility of key business information management.
A bar code label of twelve characters can wander in the time it takes about a keyboard operator to make two keystrokes.
Accuracy:
For every 1,000 characters typed by a keyboard operator, there are an average of ten key errors. For an optical character reader (OCR), there is an error in 10,000 readings. With sticks, the barcode systems approach to a mistake in every 3,000,000 characters, and laser technology, they approach an error in 70 million entries.
Data Integrity:
When all the goods or the position data is barcode scanning, which is free of human error when the data was entered. Barcode Scanners functions as a user interface designed to prevent entry of invalid data.
Number likely substitution errors per 3,400,000 characters
Data Entry Meth – Bugs
Keyboard Input – 10,000
OCR Scanning – 300
Barcode scanning (Code 39) – 1
Ease of implementation:
Operators of bar code scanners can learn to use the equipment effectively in less than 15 minutes. The system costs are lower than other means of data entry due to the existence of the hardware and software interface.
Cost Effectiveness:
The bar code systems have a demonstrated payback period of six to eighteen months, and provide the highest level of reliability in a wide variety of data collection applications. The bar code systems to create value not only saving time but also for prevention of costly errors.
Information is the most valuable asset for any organization. Each organization must protect its data management operations reliable information, ensuring accuracy and availability. Barcode scanner equipment helps companies in maintaining the supply chain and operations precision of data management.
