can pokemon crystal work on a gameboy pocket?

i am buying my nephew a pokemon game for his birtnday and he only has a gameboy pocket and an original gameboy or would any of the later pokemon games work on them?

No, Pokemon Crystal is a Gameboy Color (GBC) game and require at least a Gameboy Color or newer such as the Gameboy Advance (GBA), GBA SP or GBA Micro to play.
