Cobra Marine

Why does the Marine Corps still fly the old Cobra attack helicopter while the Army flies the newer Apache?
The Cobra is a very old helicopter. Why does the Army get the new Apache but the Marines still have the Vietnam era Cobra?
The most basic reason is money. When the government creates the budget for the military they delegate the largest portion of the defense budget to the Air Force, then the Navy, Army, and finally the Coast Guard and National Guard.
Because the Marines is only a “Department of the Navy” they receive only a small portion of the Navy’s budget. The Army budget is greater than that of the Marines.
The Marines actualy use a lot of hand-me-downs from the Army. This mainly occurs because the Army will leave without all of their equipment which the Marines then confiscate.

Steel and chrome Parade
a poem by Peter Menkin
The parade of the city and county people
and cars painted with chrome
tubes exhaust Grant glee age
Street – mile-long parade.
A testimony of America
history, 55 Chevy Station Wagon
red lights again
like a nose jet.
Sculpted Shelby Cobra
a car coveted Hollywood
among the Rolling Thunder
patrolled by local police
in his late model fast pursuit
Vehicles, other air intakes.
The girls feel about guys
the bench seats, despite
Ford Mustang ($ 20,000 value)
has buckets – tip thigh thigh
his own against the gearshift.
A race to the melodic sounds piston
gas clouds exhaust after dark
sunset the crowds standing, sitting,
call and gawk in the industry
promises and freedom than
Auto brings. Sex, steel, paint
is a hot combination in a junio
at night, the excitement of the county.
The mating calls of drag-and-blow,
attitudes in adolescence, and adult
moments with some families in line
his social position in a
Brown 48 Plymouth coupe. What
Now, a company party
like a dance community in the thunder
and success. Glory, excitement!
Summertime Summertime stars a
song parade car colors
brought out to show and bluster.
night and morning, also
on highways and regular roads.
It is an endless parade
Pet favored and polished;
even the Chevrolet 409,
mounted around the search for
Woody Wagon or something elegant.
We have met the 21st century
and is still with us, again, in a parade.

This poem from 2000 recently published in the Academy of American Poets writers workshop received few comments, I'm sorry to say. But I like the work, and here it is from their original version nearly eight years ago, when the parade Car was in Novato, California (Marin County), north of San Francisco.
This note to another poet, was published in the writer's workshop for me:
I had an idea that not everyone knows about car parades. This was held in Novato, California (about 45,000), and there are people who fix up older and the automobiles. They are awesome! Many people line the street for this popular event, is a just city.
Novato in Marin County, north of San Francisco for about 30 or more miles. I think we hold the annual parade. That I went to the motorcade, and I was impressed by it and remembered that there is no such thing in America as "car culture". Thus the poem.
Notes on the photo: The Rev. Richard Helmer, rector of the Church of Our Savior, Mill Valley, California, USA took this snapshot and gave permission to use on my blog. The blog is primarily spiritual and religious poetry, and although the poem published Chrome and steel today in Parade, I thought that Father Richard snapshot is a good option because it shows flowers and has chrome. The readers of this blog have noted that most photographs accompanying the poetry shows a flower or flowers.
So here is another picture of flowers, the instantaneous location unknown.
As a PS, Peter Menkin attends Church of Our Savior, Mill Valley, Calif., located in Marin County, north of San Francisco. Indeed, the man on the piano also illustrates the poem shows the Rev. Richard Helmer at work. The title is "Richard Piano".
"Prokofiev: Sonata No. 3 in a, Op 28.
Liszt: La Campanella
Chopin: Studies op. 10, Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 5, Polonaise in A flat major, op. 53, Prelude in G
Debussy: Estampes "
