Just bought a handheld cobra hh35 cb now i need help?

I seem to get a lot a noise and no talk but when i put my hand on the antenna i get a better reception so i’m a litlle confussed and also what would be a good magnetic antenna for my ford car something a little on the small side any answers would be great!
