My Sony Trinitron TV has a channel indicator (right hand corner) that does not want to go away? Help?

My remote for my old trinitron broke so now a bbc 2 channel indicator shows and I cannot remove this, can anybody tell me without having to buy a remote, can I manually remove this?

Sorry, you need the Sony remote, all you have to do is press the display button several times until it disappears….
