Does your body also act as a sort of “reception amplifier” when you are near a TV antenna, for some reason?

Definitely not an amplifier, but standing close to or moving your arms near an indoor antenna can affect reception. What appears to be amplification may simply be you are canceling out some undesirable condition (multipath, or non-optimum direction of the antenna) that is present when you aren’t close.

Indoor antennas should be tested for best orientation by moving it a little, then stepping well away from it. In addition to finding the optimum direction to point it, try moving it forward and back a little. Getting just a few inches closer to the signal source can actually make a difference, due to the very short wavelengths on UHF (most digital channels in the U.S. are now on UHF).

A wide range of instrument amplifiers are already available for some general purpose and some designed for specific instruments and even sound in particular. Traditional guitar amplifiers come with a clean and warm sound, a sharp treble roll off 5 kHz or less and bass roll off at 60 to 100 Hz, often built in units of reverb and tremolo. Bass amplifier have extended bass response and tone controls optimized for bass guitars (or more rarely, bass).

Superior low-end amplifiers sometimes include compressor or limited features, which help maintain the amplifier distortion at high volume levels. Keyboard amplifiers have very low distortion and extended flat frequency response in both directions. Keyboard amplifiers often have a simple onboard mixer, so that keyboardists can control the tone and the level of several keyboards. Acoustic Amplifiers are specifically designed to produce a clean, transparent sound sound when used with acoustic instruments built in transducer pickups and microphones.
